I started spending a lot of time in airports last year. Lots of travel for comics, which was wonderful, but the airports weren’t so great. I can’t draw in airports. I’ve seen other cartoonists work on comics while stuck in airports, but I just can’t. So I started carrying my laptop around with me and started writing a novel. I finished the first draft last week, while in Saskatchewan for a book festival. 89,000 words, over 200 pages, mostly written in airports.
It’s about comics (of course), and two teenagers with a really complicated family history. And about growing up in a small town and trying to leave that small town, and falling in love, and growing out of your friends and screwing up and working crappy summer jobs and San Diego Comic-con and creator rights and comics comics comics comics because OF COURSE I wrote a 200 page novel and it’s all about comics.
I don’t know if this book will find a life outside of my computer, but I’m happy I finished it. I feel super accomplished. I’m learning new things! Discovering new horizons! Anyway, I wanted to quickly draw a doodle of the main characters so I could freaking get them out of my head & focus on SDCC. Whew. See everyone there!

People are sending him racist messages telling him it’s not gonna happen and he doesn’t belong in Disney World over this post. So we’re gonna reblog it even more.

I remember this guy! Wow, it’s still only a little bit over half. Rebloggan’!

I don’t normally do these ‘reblog if’ things, but hell, if it annoys racists, why not.

That’s kinda where I stand on things.  I mostly ignore them, but kid, YOU’RE GOIN’ TO DISNEY WORLD.

I love how racists came to the party and we promptly got another 100k reblogs.  Like, WE ARE WEE AND SOMETIMES PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE, BUT FUCK YOU, HE’S GONNA RIDE THE HAUNTED MANSION UNTIL HE’S DONE.

Regardless of everything everyone is saying— Everyone should get a chance to go to Disney World, this is reason enough.
